Google releases Nexus One Car Dock


Finally, if you still want an official Nexus One Car Dock, Google will glady sell you one for $55 a pop. The dock will charge your Nexus One and features built-in speakers and volume controls.

The Nexus One Car Dock is the perfect place to put your phone when you're in the car. In addition to holding your Nexus One, the car dock also charges your phone’s battery, lets you use your phone handsfree, and provides easier access to voice and navigation apps.

The dock’s built-in speakers and volume controls also enhance the in-car music and media experience. And the Car Home app, which loads automatically, makes it easy to access Maps and Navigation, Voice Search, Contacts, and Music.

You can mount the dock on the windshield or dashboard, and it ships with an adhesive disc that lets you attach it to a textured surface as well. The dock comes with a charger to fit into your car’s 12V utility socket, and the holder can rotate for flexible orientation.

I noticed when watching the evolution of the Nexus One video, you catch a small glimpse of what appears to be the Car Dock and a spare battery charger/dock.  Seems like these things have been prototyped and they are just most likely trying to get enough of them produced to fulfill demand for the products.  There has been no news of pricing or a release date for either items we can only hope its soon.

Nexus One Dock to cost $45

A reader of Engadget spotted an ad on YouTube promoting the 'New Nexus One Dock'. The ad reveals that the Dock will cost $45 , and the features includes: Charging phone, Plays Photo Slideshow and More. Looking back at the leaked Nexus One pricing, it looks like Google raised the price of the desktop dock by $5. The dock should be available any day now.

If the leaked pricing plan is indeed the real thing then we'll be seeing two docking station for our soon-to-have Nexus One. Though the existence of the Docking accessories has been hinted early on, with the gold contacts at the bottom of the Nexus One spotted by tnkgrl and the FCC fillings by HTC. The Nexus One Desktop Docking Station will be priced at $40 and the Car Docking Station will run you $50. 

According to the leaked pricing plans, the desktop dock will offer "backing up you data" while charging and streaming music. Could this be a native backup solution for Android? We'll surely know comes Jan 5th.
